Pool Party

Yesterday we kicked off summer with a Pool Party. Our friends Anne and Erik have an awesome in-ground pool, and she wanted to throw a party for her two boys, but would need some help extra adult help with keeping an eye on kids in the pool. Since our oldest boys are in the same grade and have the same group of friends, she asked if I would be willing to help out and to go in on having a joint party. So I of course said yes! Kristjan was also able to invite a small group of his friends. I believe in all including our boys there would potentially be 25 kids (and 15 adults). All but 1 kid came! The pool was hopping with kids everywhere. Pete had put in a lot of extra hours earlier in the week, so he got off early to join in on the fun as well. At one point while swimming with all the kids, he tossed one kid up in the air into the deep end. Oh my goodness!!....when all the kids saw this, all at once they swarmed at Pete. It was like bees attracted to honey. All us moms got a good laugh. Pete was a good sport. He tossed just about every one of those kids off his shoulders....and they loved it! At one point during the party when Pete took a break, the kids lined up in the pool and started chanting his name. Almost like a scene at a rock concert, Pete came walking out of the house and the kids cheered. Once it registered with Pete that kids wanted to be tossed again, back into the pool he went. It was great. Also at the house is a huge back yard with a sand pit, trampoline and 2 kids power-wheeled vehicles. So when kids got tired of swimming, off they ran to one of those activities. We also planned the party to be right after kids had lunch so that way Anne and I didn't have to make a lunch, but asked each kid to please bring a snack to share. There was absolutely no food left at the end, which made cleanup a breeze. All in all the party was a hit and everyone had a funtastic time. And all the kids amazingly got along. Once the party was over, we stayed to help clean up. Anne and Erik invited us to stay for dinner, so the men BBQ some chicken, kids played downstairs, and the women chatted in the kitchen. It was a good ending :)
