Anniversary

Wednesday, June 12th was our 9th wedding anniversary!! Pete flew back into town from his Denver trip that evening, so we didn't have a chance to celebrate that day. Instead, he took that Friday off and we went out on a date while the boys were at school. We went and saw the new Superman movie (awesome!)and enjoyed a small lunch at Panera Bread. Nothing super fancy, but it was nice to spend time with each other.

Father's Day Weekend

My Father's Day gift to Pete this year was a family backpacking trip. That's really all he wanted - for us to go out as a family. So we did. Our destination was Boulder Lake, which is off in the Sultan area. According to the trail description Pete found online, it was suppose to be about 5 mile hike. Nope. Turned into almost 8 miles. Not only was the hike longer than we expected, but we had to make our way through an overgrown meadow, ran into fresh bear scat, and discovered the lake was completely covered in snow. So we had to hike back down the trail just far enough until we reached water. Oh, did I mention we didn't have a water filter with us on this trip? Peter let Daniel borrow our water filter, but it was returned back to us broken and missing pieces (not cool!). So we drank water from a fresh mountain stream. So far we're not sick from doing that *fingers crossed*. Anyway, once we found water, we had to find a place to camp. It was getting late and the sun was starting to set, so we just laid a tarp down on the ground off the side of the trail and called it good. With some fresh boiled water to drink and a hot meal, we were ready for bed. The following morning...I mean afternoon, since we didn't get up until after 10am...consisted of us fixing breakfast, packing up, and hiking out. The hike out seemed to take forever. We were extremely exhausted and starving. On our way home, we stopped at a local restaurant in Sultan to fill up on some much-needed calories. The hike didn't go as planned, but overall, Pete said he enjoyed himself!

Clifford and Kristjan ready to hike

We all recently got new shoes to hike in. They're the Vibram FiveFingers. Cool shoes. But I don't recommend breaking them in on a two day hike. My feet were killing me by the time I made it back to the car, and I could hardly walk for a days after!

Some pics of our journey. So happy the weather was good and the sun was shining!

This bridge has been closed for some time. We didn't let it stop us.

Pete made blueberry cobbler for dessert. Boys passed out before it was done. Kristjan was very disappointed that he missed out.

The next morning. Enjoying a hot breakfast before packing up and making the long hike down to the car.

See that building? It's the bathroom. We took the pic standing next to the car. My feet were soooo sore, I didn't have the energy to walk my butt over there. So I made Pete drive me.

Haircuts

Friday evening we took both boys in for haircuts. From now on, unless Pete is giving a simple buzz cut, they require going in and having it professionally cut (we realized this after the last haircut Pete gave the boys and butchered their hair lol).

Before pic. Clifford isn't happy about this at all. He wants to grow his hair longer

After pic. Clifford still isn't happy

Edmonds Art Festival '13

After school Friday, we headed over for a quick visit to downtown Edmonds. Kristjan's artwork from the school Art Extravaganza made it in the Edmonds Art Festival again!! His artwork was on display for all to see, and has a chance to be voted again (I think the winning prize is either money or giftcard). Whether he wins or not, we're so proud of him!!

Baker Lake

Last Saturday, along with Pete's family, we went up to Baker Lake to enjoy a day by the lake and to celebrate Peter, Mickey and Lewis' birthdays. Everyone had a wonderful time!!

Cousins on their way to the lake!

Baker Lake. Very pretty and peaceful!

Misc family pics

Eldon and Kristjan decided it would be fun to jump in the lake. Those boys were practically frozen by the time they got out.

Clifford caught himself a fish while out on the boat!! He was so proud of himself!

Time for cake and presents!

This was my first time EVER out on a boat. I loved it! And I actually caught a fish(!) but it was too small and had to throw it back. BUT Pete caught one too. These pics are of me holding his fish :)

Some more misc pics. I like Dee's facial expression in the last pic (she's telling some story)

Dee took Kristjan on a side trip to the cemetery on the way back to their place. Kristjan wanted to "visit" the uncle he was named after (spelling-wise, that is). He was so sweet. He went around all the grave sites and picked up any flowers that had been knocked over on its side.

Pete showing Clifford how to gut and clean fish. When it was all done, Clifford wanted to dissect everything. EWW!

Before heading back home, we needed some dinner. So we stopped by The Chuck Wagon. Pete used to eat here occasionally as a kid. Now he's bringing his own boys!
