FIRE!!!

We had a very interesting Monday morning. Boys stayed home from school because they were sick. Pete stayed home from work because he was up all night with the boys. As we're taking our time with getting ready for the day, all of the sudden the boys' shout "there's a fire!!" as they run to the back door. Pete and I follow them to look out and see one of the apartments in the unit across from us have smoke coming out of its open door as the tenant stands out on the balcony all nonchalant-like. From her reaction and seeing maintenance near by, we just figured that she was airing her apartment out as if she just burned something in the oven. We quickly realized this was not the case when the smoke got thicker and blacker and maintenance started telling everyone in the 24-unit building to evacuate. And then the flames came. Pete grabbed our video camera and started filming. I went out and invited some of the neighbors with kids into our home so they could stay warm. One of the neighbors who came in was actually one of the tentants of the other apartments that was badly affected. I tried comforting her as best I could as she stood there crying. It was insane to watch. We have about a half hours worth of video of the event (some video is uploaded on my Facebook).
