Sultan River

Saturday we went out for a kid-free backpacking trip. The trip almost didn't happen. That morning Peter woke up with a bad kink in his neck, so we decided to call the trip off. We went about our day, driving up north to check out the outlet mall, have lunch out, and even hitting up a garage sale. When we got home around 3ish, Peter felt much better and decided we should go after all. So we packed up our gear and off we went. We made it to the Greider Lake trail head at 5 pm. We hiked for about an hour before coming upon a spot off the Sultan River that I've always wanted to check out. Peter must have been feeling adventurous because we ended up going off trail to check it out. After looking around a bit, we settled on a spot that would work to hang our hammocks. We got camp set up just as it started to get dark out. We sat in our hammocks for dinner and dessert. I don't recall the exact time we went to bed, but I know it was late. We both slept in the next morning until after 10 am. I think we were both pretty exhausted from staying up late the past week and really needed that sleep. We took our time Sunday, having breakfast technically during lunch time. We took a dip in the river. And we laid out in the sun in our hammocks. It was so relaxing, and we would have stayed longer, but Peter (luckily) happened to look up at the sky while we were sunbathing and noticed the dark clouds that were rolling in from the distance. We really didn't want to deal with wet gear, so we decided to pack up. In the middle of packing it started to thunder. We kicked it into high gear and left just as the dark clouds were right above us. Thunder chased us out, and at one point when we turned around to take in the view we saw lightening. Ten minutes after making it to the car it started raining. All in all it was a good trip, considering it almost didn't happen!

Chewie is just too small to cross rivers. It's become a habit for me to carry the little guy across.
This was the first spot we found. Peter spent an hour moving rocks around to try and see if he could make it work for us to hang our hammocks. It did not.
I snapped some pics of the surrounding area as Peter looked around for another spot nearby
We walked around some more and we finally found two downed trees that would work for our hammocks. Peter hung them up while I took more pics of the view.
Chewie found a spot in Peter's backpack to sleep
We woke up to sunshine!

Ready to head home!
