Horseshoe Cove

The boys and I went on a mid-week mom's-only camping trip to Horseshoe Cove on Baker Lake. Anne and I planned the trip, with our friend Rhaya and her kids coming along as well. All the kids loved the trip last year to Baker Lake, with them asking all year long if we'd be going back to the campground with the docks (Swift Creek Campground), where they loved jumping off of. The group campsite for that place, which had been available all summer long, filled up with a reservation when we finally got around to reserving it. Bummer! So instead we went with this campground. And honestly I think we liked it better. The designated swim area was a lot nicer. This new place offered 3 group sites, and after doing a little exploring, we discovered one of the group sites had it's own private section leading into the lake and had a rope swing, so we would never actually need to leave our site to use the swim area (which was about a 10 minute walk). All in all, I really like the Baker Lake area, and I think I'll be making this an annual place we go in the summer. The downside (at each campground) is the mosquitoes...bring LOTS of bug dope!

Car is packed up and we're ready to go!
As Anne and I worked on setting up camp, Clifford and Jackson worked on making a fishing line with some random rope and the tab off a soda can.
Headed off to check out the lake
After dinner Anne started up the fire for s'mores
Clifford looks thrilled the next morning...and was very concerned on how his hair looked. After the pic was taken he requested I fix it.

Anne, Rhaya and I the next morning. We survived the first night!
After breakfast we drove down the road a little ways to go on a short day hike
 View of Mount Baker
After our hike we went back to camp for a quick lunch before heading down to the lake for a day of more fun in the sun!
The kids asked if they could go exploring across the lake, which we said yes so long as we could see them. They were thrilled with the freedom. Clifford and Jackson tied one of the inner tubes to both kayaks so they could paddle two of the little kids with them.

I'm on to him...
We trekked back to camp later that evening, only for the kids to have round two of swimming when we investigated the rope swing at the other group camp site. Took Clifford and Kristjan a while to get the rope because they were trying to avoid getting all wet.
One of the access points to the lake from the group site. Kids did some more swimming before the next new family arrived for the spot.
Back at camp we roasted hot dogs and s'mores
Here we are at breakfast on our last morning. We moms survived and had another successful camping trip!
