Date Night

A few months ago Peter and I purchased tickets for the upcoming Safe In Sound concert where one of our favorite EDM artists would be playing at the show. The concert was scheduled for this past Saturday. As the date started to approach, we decided we wanted a break from concerts and that a stay-cation date night sounded better. We sold our tickets and made reservations to a local hotel using a gift certificate that I was given back in June. So last Saturday, while our friends Anne and Erik graciously had the boys over for a sleepover, we went out. After we checked in and got everything settled in our room, we headed straight for the pool and hot tub. We goofed around for a bit until we realized we were starving. We made a quick trip back to our room to quickly get ready and then headed out. We settled on Applebee's, where we enjoyed a drink, appetizer, dinner AND dessert. Once our tummies were full we headed back to the hotel for the remainder of the evening. We slept until 10 am the next morning. Feeling refreshed, we showered and check out of our room. We made a quick stop to Starbucks for coffee and bagels before grabbing the boys. We definitely made the right choice in skipping the concert :)

I've heard horror stories about the germs that are in hotel's ice buckets and drinking cups, so I refuse to use those. So at around 9 pm, after we realized we forgot to stop at a store after dinner to pick up some bottled water, we decided to take a walk to the gas station down the road. We failed to realize there was a rainstorm going on. This picture doesn't do it justice...the wind was howling, rain slammed into us, and water was up past our ankles as we crossed the street.
We were soaking wet head to toe!

Harvest Bingo

Last Friday we attended the school's Harvest Bingo. This event was much more low-key (and less chaotic...i.e., no kids running around) than the Harvest Festival at our old school. After a quick dinner of BLT's and tator tots, Peter and I worked on getting the boys dressed in their costumes and made the 5 minute walk to the school (awesome!). PTA members were given a free bingo card, and then we had the option of purchasing the $10 family bingo card set, which we did. We also grabbed some pizza and pop to munch on while we played. Peter and I agreed that the best part was the lack of excessive candy. At our old school, boys would come home with a bag full of candy they won at all the games they played and would gorge on it the entire weekend. At this school, candy was only available for purchase, ranging from 25cents to $1. I treated the boys to one piece of candy each...and that was it! Clifford, however, was really annoyed by this. But it definitely limited any melt downs towards the end of the evening. We stayed and played for a good portion of the event before cutting out early. Unfortunately, we didn't win and left empty handed, but we had fun nevertheless.

Clifford was WAY less work to get ready. We rubbed coffee grounds and brown eye shadow to give him a "dirty" look
Group shot (I know Clifford's goal is to look "tough" like the character Daryl, but I can't help to think how handsome he looks in this pic!)

Stalker Farms Paintball Stalker

Last Friday Pete and boys went out on a "guys night out" with Erik and his two boys to attend Stalker Farms Paintball Stalker. It's an evening-only activity where participants ride in a trailer around a course and sit behind mounted paintball guns, and the objective is to shoot the monsters before they reach the trailer. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and they definitely want to go back and do it again next year! Below are the only pics Pete took. He said the kids wouldn't stay still so pics are bit blurry, and of course he didn't get any of the actual ride since he was busy himself shooting at the creepy monsters!

After the ride the boys got to shoot apples out of a cannon. They said it was really loud.

Stocker Farms Pumpkin Patch

On the first weekend of October we met up with our favorite friends the Protzellers and the Guthries to spend a day at the pumpkin patch. This was everyone's first time attending this farm. Peter and I really liked this one. Everything about this visit was fantastic - the weather, the activities...even all the kids were great. It made for a great Sunday afternoon!
