Easter Weekend

To finish up our Spring Break and celebrate Easter weekend, we went car camping at Fort Worden in Port Townsend with our friends, the Guthries. We lucked out with great weather. We had so much fun and were a little sad to see our trip come to an end!

Peter took Friday off from work. While we waited for our friends to meet us at our house, Peter worked on packing up our (small) car. He managed to fit 98% of everything!
Sheeba is excited and ready for our vacation too!
Here are some pics while we wait, and then go on, our first ferry of the trip
Instead of going on the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry, Gordon and Peter wanted to use the Mukilteo-Whidbey Island, then Whidbey Island-Port Townsend ferry, since neither have ever been on that route. The first ferry ride was quick, with no issues at all. And the drive through Whidbey Island was nice. We approach the line for our next ferry to take us directly to Port Townsend, only to find out we'd have to wait 4 hours for the next ferry because this one takes reservations. WHAT?! Oh, I was so annoyed. But in the end, we realize it was a good thing because as we were waiting, a huge rainstorm came through and passed just before we made it on the ferry. So in actuality, we completely missed all the bad weather, had a gorgeous ferry ride over and was able to set up camp in sunshine.
Our first night camping was relaxing. Camp was set up in no time. Adults worked on dinner (tacos!) while kiddos kept themselves busy, before relaxing the rest of the evening by the campfire.
Good Morning Sunshine!
While Peter cooked up breakfast, Michelle took the boys for a morning trip to the beach. Clifford came back dragging this tire he found, and made Caleb a tire swing.
Heading out to the bunkers and beach
We happened to see a pair of sea otters close to shore.

Back at camp for some s'mores, kite flying and Easter Eggs

Spring Break

Last week was our Spring Break. Here's what we did....

Friday-Sunday
For that first weekend, boys ran amok outside with the neighbor friends while Peter and I worked on texturing/painting/cleaning up the bathroom. Back in December we dealt with a leaky pipe that was between the bathroom and kitchen walls. That issue got fixed immediately, but we had yet to find time to pretty up the two rooms. The kitchen finally got done a month ago, and now the bathroom is done too. It's not the best work, but it's livable and good enough for what we have to work with.

Before....there were so many nail/screw holes in the walls, discoloration from moisture, etc.
After....I know you can't tell from the pic, but it definitely looks brighter, nicer and cleaner in person

Monday
I took the boys to the movies to see Home. Having no clue what this movie was about, we were all pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the movie (not to mention all the previews....there are some fun movies coming out this summer that we're hoping to go see).

Tuesday
We headed out for 2 1/2 hours of jumping fun at Elevated Sportz (an indoor trampoline park). They have different sections of fun to choose from: foam pit, general jumping, basketball, and dodge ball. Once the boys discovered the dodge ball section, I didn't see them the entire time we were there except for water breaks.

By the time the jumping session was done, we were starving for lunch. We headed over to McDonald's to split lunch before heading home for some quiet time.
After we relaxed for a few hours and Peter came home, we went out for a mid-day treat to Baskin Robbins for $1.31 ice cream scoops.
After ice cream, we had enough time to have dinner and get ready for the boys' first flag football practice. Kristjan's soccer coach from last Fall volunteered to be the team's coach, where I was asked to be team parent and Peter stepped up to be an assistant coach. Our first practice went well. The rain started in halfway through the two hour practice. The boys (and adults waiting) were troopers, considering we were all drenched by the end of practice.

Wednesday
Our adventure for the day was roller skating. We ended up bumping into one of Kristjan's friends, so that was nice for the boys to have someone else other than each other to pal around with.

Thursday
We made plans to meet up with the Dortchs to swim at the Lynnwood Rec Center. We know this family from our old school, and both of us ended up moving away at the same time and relocating into the same new school district. Also while we were there, Kristjan ended up bumping into one of his friends (Kaitlyn) from school, so he had someone to pal around with. It was nice to catch up with Keri while the kiddos did their thing. Keri and I were both surprised that everyone lasted the entire 4-hour swim session!
