Woodland Park Zoo / Endangered Species Project

While my dad was in town visiting, he ended up getting sick. Shortly after he left for home, both boys caught it! They were out of school for most of a week. Thankfully, Kristjan got well in time for his class field trip to the Woodland Park Zoo. Back in the fall, the entire first grade class started their endangered species project. Each student picked an animal (Kristjan picked a manatee) and drew a picture to include in a notepad, which families were then to sell. The money raised was then donated to the zoo, along with a planned field trip (the class will continue this project by writing up a report here in the next few weeks). I had signed up to be a parent volunteer for the field trip. Unfortunately, two days before, I got sick! Sadly, I had to back out of the trip, but another mom from Kristjan's class was kind enough to send me a few pics she took during the field trip. I was so grateful for that!

My poor babies sick! Kristjan is a lot like me when sick; just lying down, cuddled up underneath blankets. Clifford, however, takes after his dad. He spent most of his time playing computer games.

Spring Break

Spring Break was the first week of April. We had many adventures! Here's what we did:

Grandpa Gibb Visits: My dad flew up from Virginia to spend the week with us. I really enjoyed the boys and him having the opportunity to spend time together, making memories. Clifford and Kristjan even spent the night at his hotel twice. They got to jump on the bed, eat lots of candy, and swim in the pool! At home, they'd constantly ask him to come outside to watch them play. Unfortunately, my dad ended up getting sick while here, which then we ended up catching it as well.

Here's a few pics of Clifford and Kristjan on their sleepover with Grandpa Gibb. Sadly, I didn't get any pics with all of them together!

Frog Lady at the Library: We joined some school friends at one of the local library to watch the Frog Lady talk about frogs. The boys have been to her frog class that she offers through the community before (which you pay and get 2 hours of more info/crafts/toughing of frogs), but since this was free, it was more of her just talking and simply showing her frogs around. Nevertheless, the boys were entertained. Pete even gave her info on a frog species she had never heard of (google "horror frog"...it's crazy!).

Grandmas Come to Visit: My mom and Jane came up for a little visit to see the boys. Jane visited with my dad, whom she hadn't seen in 30 years, while I visited with my mom. I was happy they were able to make it up.

Boeing Museum of Flight: Every first Thursday of the month, the Boeing Museum of Flight offers free admission to the public in the evening. I've been wanting to go to this FOREVER, but it just never worked out. Well, we finally made it! Pete and I really enjoyed it; boys, however, were kinda bored. I'm hoping when they're a little older they'll appreciate it more. In the meantime, Pete and I are hoping to go back without the boys so we can fully enjoy and appreciate the history of it.

We literally took over 200 pics during our visit! So here's just a few I selected.

Pacific Science Center: We met up with the Guthries at the Science Center. We spent a few hours looking at the new exhibit, the butterfly exhibit, and watched the 3D-movie "The Last Reef". Afterwards, we headed back to their house for a bbq dinner before having to take my dad to the airport.

Easter

Our Easter this year was low key. That Saturday we started off by attending the Easter Egg Hunt that we've gone to for the past three years. Now that the boys are getting older, they don't think it's as much fun (Pete and I were thinking we may have to do something different next year). We were lucky to have some sunshine all day, so after the egg hunt we went home to relax. Later that evening we went over to visit some friends. Kids ran around while the adults chatted around the fire pit. Also late that evening, my dad flew in from Virginia to visit us during Spring Break (separate post on that coming soon). So we drove to SeaTac to pick him up before calling it a night. I don't think we got home until 1am, and by that point I was so exhausted. I was afraid the Easter Bunny would forget to make an appearance at our house, but luckily he didn't! And of course the boys were so excited for the bunny to come that they woke up really, really early Sunday morning. This year, the bunny got smart and cut down even more on how much candy to give the boys! Easter Sunday was spent checking my dad into his hotel, taking a trip to the beach (more sunshine!!), and eating a delicious surf 'n turf meal. Hope everyone enjoyed their Easter!

Easter Bunny made a visit!

Before heading to the beach Easter morning, we stopped by a friends house to feed their chickens. We were asked to keep an eye on them while her and her family went out of town. As a thank you, we were able to keep any eggs the chickens laid. Both boys loved this.

A BEAUTIFUL day at the beach!! And boys had a field day finding all sorts of sea life!

Our delicious Easter dinner! Dinner was very informal, with adults eating at the table and boys eating outside. All the neighbor kids were jealous of the boys :)

Art Extravaganza

At the end of March the boys' school had their annual Art Extravaganza. The event allowed parents to walk the hallways of the school to look at the pieces of artwork each student created. Parents also had the opportunity to vote for their favorite 3 pieces of artwork from each grade. Of course, Clifford and Kristjan were our #1 vote for their grade! I love walking around looking at the artwork. There's a lot of talented students at the school. This year I volunteered my time to help the gal in charge of putting together the event by backing the artwork, so I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak of everything. That evening we also had Scouts to attend to as well, so we arrived a few minutes early to avoid the crowded hallways and make our votes. Refreshments were available as well. We nibbled a treat before heading to Scouts.

UPDATE: Kristjan's artwork made it AGAIN into the Edmond's Art Festival!!! So proud of him!
